10-year BIP anniversary - reviews and success stories

This year, BME (German Association for Materials Management, Purchasing and Logistics) has again published reviews of interesting stories and events from purchasing. However, this issue has a very special value for me. In this year 10th anniversary issue readers are allowed to nominate their favourite covers from the last ten years of BIP issues. A long time, which includes my contribution, among others.

At Burda, we have rethought and lived purchasing

Time is an important commodity not only in history, but also in purchasing. It is needed to implement important changes sustainably and successfully. This is also how my journey began with the Burda Procurement project, which, among other things, changed the mindset and perspective in New Procurement. And it is precisely in this special issue that BIP takes a look behind the scenes of what is happening.

The somewhat intimidating entry

Terms such as "Golden Circle", "Business Canvas Model", onion skins and Batman figures in Galery Walks were part of the success concept that I have accompanied together with my network partner h&z Unternehmensberatung since 2017. Regular sales and negotiation training, systemic coaching and new methods and tools convinced the procurement team of the hidden potential in purchasing. The start of this transformation process was seen as sobering at the beginning. However, the journey lasted 4 years. During this time, the continuity and regularity of the intensive trainings and the resulting results were good impulses for other departments as well. Negotiation trainings in 14-day intervals, intensive but appreciative feedback rounds were the important components of this exciting transformation period.

Unusual but effective

The new approaches, which have led to sustainable success in everyday purchasing and the purchasing strategy, have also been successfully applied in the recruiting process and the assessment centre. Here, the Burda colleagues focused on the strategic-analytical thinking of the applicants. Questions like "How many hairdressers are there in Munich?" were the result of the new approach in the recruiting process.

For me it was a very exciting and learning time and I am very happy that my contribution made such a difference and that we get to see it presented again in the anniversary edition.

For me, there is another reason to rejoice. Because in autumn of this year, another kind of anniversary will be celebrated with Burda. Another, surprisingly also the 10th, training series is planned. I am already looking forward to the journey ahead;
